An Ancient Chinese Plucked-String Instrument

This is a popular prominent feature in classical & contemporary Chinese history. Since the beauty of its sound can be captured as a solo, accompanying or an ensemble, anyone can begin to learn to play as the scores’ symbols and notes are also easy to read. This folk instrument offers musicians a plethora of sounds, oftentimes popular songs can also be played, giving these pieces a unique tune of its own. 

Our programs comprise of the basic hand postures and shape before learning to play chords and melody with both hands. With the help of plectra, you will train individual fingers to be agile to pluck notes and add ornamentation to obtain that crisp and bright tone.

Instructor: Yang Huicong

Graduated from Nanjing Arts Institute, protégé of CCM Guzheng Master Yuan Sha,is a well known Guzheng artist in Singapore. As a member of the Chinese National Instrumental Music Association, she has been awarded “Mentor of distinction” for 17 years straight by CCM testing committee while also holding judge position for multiple international Guzheng competition events. Her students made themselves to podiums on multiple large-scale Guzheng competitions under her tutoring. With years of on-stage and in-classroom experiences, Huicong worked out her own genre and teaching method which has won her recognition from both critics and parents.

An overview of the history of the Guzheng, the learning of basic music theory and the mastery and skillful use of the techniques of Gotuo Motuo, Big Pinch, Small Pinch, Vibrato, and Glide.

Repertoires such as “A Laugh in the Sea”, “Chunjiang Flower Moon Night”, “Kangding Love Song”, “Fengxiang Song”, “Upstairs”, “The Most Glorious Work”, “The Little Girl Who Picks Mushrooms”, etc.
